NANCI CLARENCE QUOTED IN DISCUSSION OF THE APPLICABILITY OF “BATSON” CHALLENGES TO GAY JURORS

Nanci Clarence was quoted extensively in an article published by The Recorder on August 12, 2013 about developments in federal rules governing jury selection in the wake of the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision striking down the Defense of Marriage Act. In the article, Clarence commented on a case before the Ninth Circuit in which it will be deciding whether U.S. v. Windsor establishes a level of equal protection for gays and lesbians to protect them from being stricken as jurors.
